I’m happy to announce new versions of Snagit 11 for Windows and Snagit on Mac 2 are available today!

You’ve asked and we’ve listened. The number one request from Snagit users? Video! The new release of Snagit is full of new video features and capabilities on both platforms!

What’s new in Snagit?

  • Video Capture (Windows and Mac)
  • Video Outputs to Camtasia Studio, Screencast.com, YouTube, FTP, Facebook and Twitter (Windows and Mac)
  • Image Outputs to Facebook, Twitter and Evernote (Windows and Mac)
  • New Stamps (Windows and Mac)
  • Paste from Clipboard (Windows and Mac)
  • Centered Canvas (Windows)
  • Updated, time saving profiles and more available to download (Windows)
  • Easier Resizing (Windows)
  • More Zoom Options (Windows)
  • Spell Check (Windows)
  • Change Canvas Color (Mac)
  • Color Filters (Mac)
  • Webcam Image Capture (Mac)

Use Snagit’s video capture to reproduce software bugs, show coworkers certain features of specialized software, or make training aids for clients. See popular uses for Snagit here and real-life examples here of how people use Snagit.

And, I also have some news about Jing. Jing Pro is heading into retirement starting today, February 28, 2012. All current Jing Pro customers will have their subscriptions extended free of charge until February 28, 2013 and can purchase an upgrade to the new Snagit at a 50 percent discount. With Snagit, users will no longer have a five minute video recording limit, and for images will have the freedom to blur sensitive information, scroll and capture long webpages and documents and enhance screenshots like never before. And, fear not, the free version of Jing is not going anywhere.

Already a Snagit user? Thank you! Upgrade pricing is $24.95 for current Jing Pro subscribers and existing Snagit users. New to Snagit? You can purchase the software for $49.95 (which includes a free Screencast.com account with 2GB of storage and 2GB of transfer bandwidth monthly). Snagit on Mac is now also available in the Mac App Store.

Betsy – there needs to be more doc on how to use the Facebook image upload. Ive downloaded the profile and used it. The image I snagged is now sitting in my editor. I have no clue how to get it to Facebook. Why isnt FB considered another output like Screencast, Word etc…why is it a profile..or is that what i am doing wrong?

  • Donald Smith

I agree with Betsy. I installed the FB Profile, but couldn’t get it to work, then tried to install the FB Output, but couldn’t get it installed. :(

  • Donald Smith

    oops, I meant Jon. :)

  • Jeff Chalmers

I was a Jing Pro subscriber, but don’t see why I wasn’t given extention to 2013 or discount for new version of SnagIt. Thx!

Hi Jeff – Sorry you were missed. Is there a chance the email with the promo offer went into your spam folder? But no matter, we can send another one to you. Please email d.foster@techsmith.com (Or if you want me to use the email address you used to authenticate this comment, let me know…)

  • Daniel Foster

Jon & Donald – Sorry for the issues with the Facebook output. I just checked the support system and it looks like both of you are in touch with one of our superstar agents. You’re in good hands but if you need anything else, please let us know!

I would have thought the number 1 request from Snagit Users is that is doesn’t crash all the time and that you fix scrolling capture. I’ve paid TWICE for an upgrade to fix it and it still crashes all the time.
This used to be my favourite application, but it is now dead to me.

Webcam runs all the time?? Anybody else?

I’m a v10 user and am trying out 11. Enhanced video capture capabilities seems to be the main draw for upgrade.

I notice that with this new version my webcam stays ‘turned on’ all the time whenever Snagit is running. Can’t tell if this is a feature or a bug, and if a feature, how do I turn it off. Normally my webcam stays off unless specifically invoked by some action on my part, like starting a video chat or whatever.

If anyone else has a similar situation/insight, please post it here.

  • Daniel Foster

Hi John, I have not heard of that…sounds very strange. Can you open a ticket with our support team so they can look into it for you? http://bit.ly/ts-support (Ask a Question tab)

OYE! when do you think they’ll add profiles to Mac version of Snagit? This is something I’ve been praying for for a while – I take all of the screenshots/video for our company portfolio and I would give body parts to set up a profile to take the same area/location shot over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again… ;)

As cool as these new features are, the first comment I received from one of our staff was “Where did all the Quick Styles go?” Having the large list available in SnagIt 10 was great; v11 cut that down to two rows and necessitated having to edit an existing shape to create the desired result that was standard in v10! It doesn’t help the cause when you upgrade and appear to get less than what you had before. I’ve found a blog that tells how to import styles, but I’m less than happy that I have to search for such things in the first place.

  • scott

After some googling, let me clarify: It’s the number of PRESET styles that have decreased. I want them back!

  • Andre LeBlanc

    Why all the removals?
•Removed support for several file formats including .msp, .cal, .pcx, .raw, etc.
•Removed the ability to capture full screen DOS windows.
•Removed the ability to capture icons from .exe and .dll files.
•Removed the “Create Web Page” feature.
    •Removed the Web Capture mode.
•Removed the ability to capture from DirectX applications.
•Removed various region capture options including capturing triangle region, a rounded rectangle region, an ellipse region, etc.

Just to make sure, all the screenshots and screencasts that I made with JingPro will be safe on screencast.com even if I switch over to SnagIt, correct?

  • Daniel Foster

Hi Dylan – that is correct…nothing changes at Screencast.com. If you use the Screencast.com output for Snagit, your new captures will go into a different folder on Screencast.com (a Snagit folder instead of a Jing folder) but there’s also a setting to change that.
