Update: As of Oct 1, 2012 we will be discontinuing the #tuesdayswithsnagit contest. Many of our contributors were Educators, and now they are just too busy teaching to participate! But never fear, we run various contests throughout the year and you can keep yourself updated by subscribing to our News & Events blog category. Thanks to all who participated and we hope to see you next time!

#TuesdayswithSnagit logo If you’re a fan of the Twitterverse, it’s likely that you’ve seen some of our employees and others sharing pictures with the hashtag, #TuesdayswithSnagit. Maybe you’ve even looked at the pictures presented and gotten a good chuckle, but still wondered what this thing is about? Wonder no more, we have all the answers for you!

What is #TuesdayswithSnagit?

#TuesdayswithSnagit combines weekly themes, quick thinking, deadlines, and color commentary into a social contest on Twitter. First, participants grab the weekly theme and find a picture that fits. Second, they use Snagit to add color commentary and annotations before uploading their picture to Twitter, sharing it with everyone. The result is mischievous fun, comparing everyone’s individual takes on the weekly theme while learning some new Snagit tips and tricks.

To give you an idea of how much fun we’re having, here is a submission from Jason Valade from the past theme, entitled BOOM! where you had to find something – anything – that reminded you of the Fourth of July.

Another great example comes from Jessie LaHaie.  The theme for this week was HOT HOT HOT! which was lovingly inspired by the heatwave that we were enjoying at the time.

Participating in #TuesdayswithSnagit is easy and fun!

To get up and running, you will need a Twitter account and a copy of Snagit. If you don’t have Snagit then go download the free 30 day Snagit trial.

  1. Every Monday at 12 noon ET the theme of the week will be posted from the @Snagit Twitter handle with the hashtag #TuesdayswithSnagit for easy searching. (You can also check the widget below for the theme.)
  2. Find a picture that fits the theme, bring it into Snagit and make it as wildly creative as you want, adding color commentary, stampsannotations and whatever else you think it should have.
  3. On Tuesday, share it on Twitter by 6pm ET using the same #TuesdayswithSnagit hashtag. This is where the fun begins!
  4. Check back during the day to see what other people have submitted, offer words of praise, encouragement or just plain silliness.

A mild mannered graphic designer by day and highly sought after musician by night, Jonathan Moody is no stranger to the pursuit of technology or talking about it ad nauseum.  Jon’s introduction into TechSmith came from longtime friend – and Customer Solutions Engineer - Jason Valade, during an exchange over Twitter. That exchange resulted in downloading Snagit, having some fun, and creating the runaway hit (well, we can be positive, right?), #TuesdayswithSnagit. Currently, Jon uses Snagit, Camtasia for Mac, and Coach’s Eye as tools to help elevate the musical content he presents online in the form of technique how-to’s, effect pedal demos and articles for online ‘zine, Bass Musician Magazine.
