No home Wi-Fi? Ask3 & Videos To-Go.

For me, teaching is the art of improvisation.  Over time, my lesson plan became, "Use plan B." When we made Ask3, we thought:  "Let's make teachers' lives easier by having kids help each other."  Teachers would then tell us about the students who had iPads, but who didn't have Wi-Fi at home.  Hello, plan B. I am using just one video where he just replies or sends me a video. 2)  In class to pose questions to each other during work time. 3) We use it in class as a "check for understanding" tool. I give students problems and Continue reading

Crystal Kirch, WSQ and Ask3

Last year, I met Crystal Kirch, who helps her kids to think, write and talk about math every day. As she says: (1) I want my students comfortable asking and answering questions of each other, especially when they are confused. (2) I just want my students asking questions, period! That is where discussion and deeper thought come from! She breaks it down to 3 steps (WSQ): Watch. Students are NOT required to watch her whole video, as long as they can effectively show they understand. Continue reading
