We’ll be back in September with the beginning of season 3. If you can’t wait that long, no worries, we’ll be posting some videos and blog posts periodically throughout the summer. And if you really can’t take us being away that long, come to Screencast Camp in August. It’s a free event and a great way to learn to make even better screencasts!

It’s a shame… Camtasia 8 for Windows doesn’t include the “Remove Background” feature that Camtasia 2.1 for the Mac does.  Why not?  It seems all your promotional videos are using virtual backgrounds.  Are these made with your Mac 2.1 version?  Why isn’t this feature included in the Windows version?

    Rich

    • Mcorkins

I agree with you too Rich. I believe it would be easy to incorporate the “Remove Background” effect in CS8. I have always liked the special effects in the Mac version.

    • Djd

I agree with Rich too.  After seeing multiple videos detailing the remove background feature in the Mac version – I am deeply saddened…OK maybe not deeply but come on…not fair!

Shame, indeed. And a shame we weren’t told this bad news when the decision was made.

    • Shane Lovellette

Thanks for the feedback everyone! We certainly agree this is a great feature and are looking into how we can get it into Camtasia Studio.

  • Joerg

How can I take part in the webinar?

    • Mcorkins

Refresh this page close to 2:00 pm and the video will appear above. Hope this helps you.

Does your preshow music come from stock20.com?

    • Kelly Rush

@25a6c4b1955d713546d3817111c4ddfd:disqus The music that we were running before the show was just a bunch of the tracks available in the new Camtasia Studio 8.

  • Susan Schleef

Will there be new training available on the new features like “snap on timeline”?

  • guest23

In regards to the quiz feature. Am I going to get results back for each individual user…. or is it a group score. Can you just explain how that all works on the report you get back.

    • Peet

yes, very interesting topic I like to understand too. We have a lot of people watching the output as offline video, on planes and trains.. how does quizzing feedback gets saved/collected then? Details would be great.

      Thanks.

    • Shane Lovellette

Thanks for your questions about quizzing. You get two .csv files with each quiz report. One is a summary file that includes overall scores for individual users. For example, say you have a video about the Water Cycle with two quizzes in it. John watches the video on the first day, and takes the quizzes. The summary report will include one entry for John (unless he takes the quizzes multiple times), and his overall score for both quizzes combined.

You also get a detailed report that shows how John answered each individual question. This is a separate .csv file. Using the same example, if there were 3 questions in the first quiz, and 5 in the second quiz, you will see 8 row entries for John, one for each question.

Both reports will include results from all viewers who took the quiz for that day. Let’s say John and 5 others view the Water Cycle video on the first day. The report you receive at the end of that day will include 6 people. Let’s say the next day, 10 more people view video and take the quiz. Your report at the end of the second day will include 16 entries, the 6 from the first day, and the 10 from the second day. Each report includes all data from previous days, plus the new data. This way, you can set a deadline of when someone needs to view a video and take the quiz, and then just look at that last days report to see all of the data. You don’t have to manually combine it yourself.

One more thing, you will only get a report if there are new results to report. If in our example, no one views and takes the quiz on day 3, then you will not get another report on day 3.

      I hope this helps!

      Thanks,

Hello, we have implemented a new quiz service that collects the quiz data and sends it to the quiz creator
in the form of two .csv reports: Summary and Detailed.

      * The Summary .csv report contains a total score and percentage for
each person, per video. While a video may have several quizzes, the summary
report combines the scores from all quizzes in the video to give one overall
      score.
      * The Detailed .csv report contains a time stamp, detailed
question/answer scores, text field entries, and more.* Reports are sent once each day. No reports are sent if there is no new data
collected. * Reports aggregate data. So, each report contains both old and new data. * The email you receive will look like this:
      http://screencast.com/t/ssmaMl5bmgZ
I hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

      Kelly

Is the smart player available for android too?

    • Matt Pierce

      Hi Todd,

Shane Lovellette, Product Manager for Camtasia, answer your question here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L45qSymgv2k&feature=player_embedded#t=2120s.

Short answer is no, but because Android supports Flash and HTML 5, it should just work without needing to download anything extra.

Can I create sub-folders in the Library for better asset organization?

    • Shane Lovellette

Thanks for your question Lon! Currently, no, you cannot create sub-folders in the Library. We will consider this however! How many levels do you need? How do you like to organize your content in folders? Are folders the best option to solve your problem? The more context you can provide around why you need this, the better the solution we can create.

  • Richard Wells

Last time I was trying to create a training presentation which combined multiple elements of timed (with an atomic clock) recordings one of the problems encountered was wanting to synch the Camtasia time line with the times visible on the recording so all events used in the presentation were synvched to a common timeline.  I was working with Camtasia 5 and am eager to upgrade to Camtasia 8.  Is/was it always possible to reset the timeline on Camtasia.

  • Jeff

Do you support proxy settings now to check for upgrades?

Are there any plans to eventually allow Camtasia to be used “live” for something like a webinar where you can stage content to appear and overlay the on-screen action as it happens? Perhaps even used to present and record sessions of The Forge! That could be a really cool way to use it.

    • http://www.techsmith.com/ Daniel Foster

Hi Rick – we don’t have any plans to offer an app for live video mixing…though it is something we could use for The Forge, as you point out! Would love to have you post your idea on http://bit.ly/ts-feedback to see what other interest there might be out there.
