Please note: We are retiring the free Snagit for Google Chrome extension August 31, 2016. Details here.
It’s update time! With our last major update, we debuted video screen recording in Snagit for Google Chrome. The response has been great, but we’re not done yet! We wanted to continue to make the workflow even easier. Until now, starting a screen recording was a bit confusing. Video recording had to happen from within the app, while image captures happened from within the extension. We’ve fixed that! In order to eliminate a lot of that confusion, you can now start all captures, both image and video from the extension.
While this update is mainly concentrating on fixing the workflow for captures and recording, we couldn’t help but add a cool new feature as well! We’ve been noticing GIF screencasts gaining in popularity on social websites like Twitter and Google+, as well as on blog posts and websites. We wanted to make that easier for people and we’re excited to announce that we’ve added animated GIF production support in Snagit for Google Chrome! You’ll have the option to save all screen recordings under 20 seconds as an animated GIF. The animated GIF file is automatically saved to your “TechSmith” folder on Google Drive, and you will have the option of copying the link to share to people, or to download the .gif file itself to your computer.
Other smaller updates include the ability to set hotkey shortcuts in the extension, as well as a number of smaller bug fixes. Thanks so much for all the feedback and kind words we’ve received so far; we love hearing from all of you, so please continue to look for us on Google+, give us feedback on our website, or stop by and see us at ISTE if you’re going to be in the neighborhood next week!
